Inspiring words!!

Yiota at Shells and Bells, Flowers and showers brought inspiring words week to my attention and I have got some to share!! :)

"Books are the carriers of civilisation. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill." Brian Tracy.

I think this is brilliant and completely true, if we did not have books to record vital knowledge and stories etc, no one would know about them, and the world would turn into an ignorant place!!

I think this one is really fun: "We are like teas bags - we don't know our own strength until we're in hot water" Sister Busche

This poem from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream inspires me to think warm sunny thoughts of Summer:

I know a bank whereon the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows;
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses, and with eglantine.

I don't always find Shakespeare easy to understand, but I really like his flowing poetry!

Now I am even more inspired to read more books and to enjoy the summer holidays outside!

Brilliant post Lucy. How true the first quote - I hate the idea of books being replaced by on-line literature (can't curl up in bed with a computer can you?). Love the tea-bag one and like you I didn't always find Shakespeare easy to understand but the piece you've chosen is so evocative of a summer meadow - roll on summer!

Lucy,
You're so right with the book quote. I would be so lost without them. I have a quote I keep pinned up on my wall which I found a couple of years ago in an artist's book. It's by the playwright Samuel Beckett and goes as follows : Ever tried, ever failed, no matter, try again, fail again, fail better.
Have a great weekend. Lesley x

Lucy, what a lovely post,I just love the tea bag quote,it is so true, and I totally agree with Marigold Jam,the thought of books being replaced by on line literature terrifies me,there is nothing better than lazing around outside when the sun is out with a good book!I love Printed Material's Samuel Beckett's quote too,I must send it to my daughter who is feeling quite down at the moment!Have a lovely weekend,Beckyxx

Just popping in to my last visit for the night, before heading to bed with a good book to read. What a smart, smart young lady you are. This is a brillant post to read right before bed.... On that note, I will say Good Night and Sweet, Sweet Dreams to you my friend.

Have a wonderful weekend,
But, don't forget how to play in life,

I thought I'd left a comment when I first read your post and just came back here to reread the quotes; turns out, I hadn't!
Anyway, I love books and the quote about them is so wise! And I love Midsummer Night's Dream!
